I've always dearly loved movie trading cards even though I never had many as a kid, other than the Star Wars: A New Hope series. I was four years old when the original Star Wars movie was released and the bubble gum cards were my introduction to the movie and I completely lost myself in them. My parents buying me a whole box of them and giving me one pack a day is about as good as it gets! There is something really unaffected and naive about the cards that came out in the Seventies, especially in comparison to the movie merchandise of today which is amied at certain demographics via market research. I was really happy to see that trading cards have just been released in a vintage style for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and was instantly taken back to the excited feeling of being a kid when I saw them. Original movie trading cards were incredibly basic in design, often misspelled and lacking in image quality, but were all the better for it. I find the format deeply comforting and thought it would be fun to create versions, in a vintage style, for some of my favourite movies that definitely do not belong on bubble gum cards! I love that juxtaposition and can't tell you how much fun these were to put together!! My problem is that I don't know when to stop. More to come... |
